Anyone who wants to learn the proper way to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation is encouraged to attend “HeartSaver,” a CPR course offered by Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital (SYVCH).
Community members over the age of 10 are invited to attend the adult CPR class at SYVCH on Thursday, Sept. 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. The class will be held in the administration building behind the hospital, located on Viborg Road in Solvang.
The “HeartSaver” class will be led by Tina Collins, RN, MSN, ICCE, who has extensive knowledge of critical life-saving skills such as CPR. Collins, who has worked in patient education at Cottage Health for more than 30 years, is on staff with the hospital’s Health Education Department.
“Come and learn how to be a heart saver,” Collins said. “What you learn in three hours could rescue someone’s life.”
Based on the American Heart Association guidelines for the lay public, the adult “HeartSaver” class covers CPR as well as foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO). It also includes instructions in the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) on anyone over the age of 8.
The class is appropriate for non-professional caregivers and any lay person who wants to learn these skills. Participants will receive a course completion card upon successfully finishing the class.
The class fee is $25 per person; pre-registration is required by Sept. 12. Class participants must be over 10 years old. Please register in advance online, or call Frances McKinney at (805) 569-7325.
