It is with great sadness that the family of Garrett Charles Petersen announce his sudden passing on January 14, 2018 at the age of 24 years. Garrett was born in Santa Barbara, California, on July 31, 1993, and grew up along the Central California coast. He graduated from Santa Monica High School in 2011 and attended Santa Monica College. He moved to Springfield, Oregon in 2017, with the goal of attending The University of Oregon and ultimately becoming a high school history teacher.
Garrett was surrounded his entire life by a family who adored him. He was the loving son of Sandra Petersen Wiseman, Shane Pander, and William Equitz, the protective big brother and best friend of Dakota Pander, the spoiled grandson of Shirley Garvey and Kevin Garvey, and the cherished nephew and godson of Anne Petersen. Garrett was preceded in death by his grandfather, Arden Petersen. He was also loved tremendously by his grandparents Robert and Nyoka Gallindo, his aunt Tracy Wright (uncle Tom and cousins Caitlin and Christian), his aunt Kelly Kunze (and cousins Jake, Tyler, and Dustin), his uncle and godfather Charles Petersen (aunt Jennifer and cousins Gabe, Rachel, Elena, and Timmy), his uncle Robert Gallindo, his uncle Matt Gallindo, his aunt Cecelia Bernal, and his very close friend Calen Hoover.
Garrett's favorite thing to do was explore the outdoors. From camping, to fishing, to hiking, to floating down the river, Garrett always had a smile on his face. He was extremely proud to be a Dane, and participated annually in Solvang's Danish Days where he would cook æbleskivers and eat medisterpølse with his family, and ride on the Viking ship in the parade. He was rarely seen in anything other than a UCLA sweatshirt and a smile. And he was extremely excited to become an uncle to Dakota's first son, Phoenix Charles, who joined the world one week after Garrett passed away.
