Margaret Louise Klages, a longtime resident of Santa Ynez, died peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of August 29, 2017. Maggie was born in Los Angeles on June 10, 1923, the daughter of Louis Landry Brown and Winifred Alverta Stewart. Maggie was raised in the Los Angeles area and went on to work for the local office of the FBI as their first female photographer. She was an active folk dancer and this led to meeting her beloved husband, Ralph. They married in 1963 and enjoyed 40 years together before Ralph's passing in 2004. Together they sailed the Pacific in their sail boat and traveled to Europe. While Ralph practiced medicine in Glendale, Maggie started a new venture for them in the Big Bear Lake area. They became the proprietors of the Krausmeier Haus Guest Lodge for many years before relocating to Santa Ynez to enjoy their Retirement. Maggie and Ralph loved this area and were active volunteers especially at the Lake Cachuma Nature Center where they worked as docents. Blessed with the friendship of so many wonderful people in this Valley sustained Maggie during her many years and especially during the last 3 1/2 years as her health started to decline. She is survived by a son and grandson and their spouses, two nieces, three cousins and other extended family. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful caregivers who assisted day/night with Maggie's life needs over the last several years. Honoring her wishes, there will only be a small private gathering, and no public services.
