Mary, a long-time resident of Santa Ynez, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Santa Barbara to Barbara Martinez and Fred Romero, she was the middle of 5 children. Growing up she remained close to her siblings and loved telling stories of how they took care of each other.
Mary settled in Santa Ynez on the Chumash Reservation after living in Santa Barbara for the first half of her life. She lived near all of her siblings and would see and visit them regularly.
Family was very important to Mary, she enjoyed going out to eat with her large family several times a week at her favorite spots the Long Horn and Pea Soup Andersons. Her favorite pastime was playing slot machines at the Chumash Casino Resort.
She is preceded in death by her mother Barbara Martinez, father Fred Romero, husband Richard Pendleton, sisters Rachel Romero and Norma Comastro, brother Rudy Romero and niece Rosalie Romero. She is survived by her daughter Juanita Romero, sister Grace Pacheco, brother Alfred Romero, grandchildren Sonia Chavez (George), Teresa Sat (Junior), Sofia Mata-Leon (Ivan), great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Mary's passing will leave a void in her family, she will be deeply missed.
Graveside services: Monday, September 18th at 11:00 am at Oak Hill Cemetery in Ballard.
