William Thomas Brand

William Thomas Brand, 82, passed away peacefully Monday, June 5, 2017 at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital surrounded by his family.

Bill was born September 27, 1934 in Cheyenne, WY and grew up in Sharon Springs KS. He lost his dad early in life, and was raised by his mother, Laura. By the age of 12, Bill was driving a tractor to help support his family. He graduated from high school in 1952 and joined the United States Marine Corps. When he was stationed at Camp Pendleton, he met his beautiful wife, Marlene on a blind date. They tied the knot 6 months later, and were married for 56 years.

Bill and Marlene moved to the Santa Ynez Valley and raised their 5 boys. He was a long time resident of Buellton. Bill worked as a telephone technician for General Telephone & Electric for 30 years. When he retired in the late 1980's he started his own business, Phone Tech, that he ran with his son for 10 years.

He liked to travel the world with Marlene. They have been to Israel, Africa, and all over Europe. He was also an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fly fishing, camping with his sons in the Rockies and hiking in the Sierras.

Bill was well known for his work in the church. He served as a minister for many years for the Church of Christ. He also did missionary work in Ghana, Africa. He was always ready and willing to talk to anyone about the gospel.

Bill is survived by his 5 sons: Dale, Danny, Michael, James and Billy Brand. Also by 6 grandchildren: Jamie Rico (Alfredo), Shaina Jacobs (Jeremy), Erik Brand (Danielle), Megan Brand, Allan Brand, Joshua Brand (Theresa); and 6 great grandchildren: Adrian, Ryan and Jesse Rico; Ty and Dakota Jacobs; and Conner Brand.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Brand, and his brother, Bob Brand.

A memorial service was held at the Buellton Church of Christ on June 10th. The family asks that any memorial donations in his name be made to the Buellton Church of Christ, P.O. Box 101, Buellton, CA 93427.
