Cailloux Cheese Shop owner Janelle McAtamney wants to educate Valley cheese lovers about their favorite food. The cheesemonger is planning on opening a retail store in Solvang by the end of the year. In the meantime, she is operating "pop up" cheese events at Tessa Marie Tasting Room in Los Olivos and at various events.
"The Wine and Cheese Experience with Cailloux Cheese Shop" is on the calendar for Saturday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Tessa Marie. McAtamney will pair seven different wines, including two sparkling wines, with seven savory cheeses.
On Wednesday, McAtamney will bring her cheeses and her cheese expertise to the Women Winemakers dinner celebrating International Women's Day at K'Syrah in Solvang. She'll be incorporating her cheeses into a menu put together by Chef Pink, of Bacon & Brine; Brooke Stockwell, of the Union Hotel; and Amy Dixon, of The Baker's Table.
A "St. Patrick's Day Edition" of Cailloux's "Wine and Experience" is scheduled for March 17 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. also at Tessa Maria. Irish artisanal cheeses, Irish butters and fresh soda bread are on McAtamney's menu for pairing with seven Tessa Marie wines.
