The next session of LIVESTRONG at the YMCA runs from Feb. 6 to April 27 at the Stuart C. Gildred Family YMCA in Santa Ynez.
LIVESTRONG is a small-group program that helps adult cancer survivors reclaim their health and well-being following a cancer diagnosis. Through this free program, YMCAs are creating communities among cancer survivors and guiding them through safe physical activity, helping them build supportive relationships, and reducing stress -- leading to an improved quality of life.
New research from the Yale Cancer Center and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute shows that cancer survivors who participated in the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program exhibited improvements in physical activity, fitness and quality of life, according to Nicki Marmelzat, YMCA Regional Health and Wellness director.
