The Los Olivos Rotary sponsored a Buellton Senior Center dinner on Sept. 26.
A sell-out crowd of 60 seniors were served by six students from Dunn School in Los Olivos. They were assisted by Buellton Senior Center staffers Jim Nichols, Gracie Love, Wanda Nelson and Rosa Castillos.
Los Olivos Rotary offered a ham dinner that began with a Waldorf salad. The entree was enhanced by four-cheese scalloped potatoes and green beans almondine. Dinner concluded with a spectacular no-bake lemon pie for dessert.
Pam Gnekow, executive director of the Buellton Senior Center, made after-dinner announcements. First, she thanked the Santa Ynez Valley Jewish Community for donating several bags of nonperishable food. Next, a new food donation program from Nielsen’s Market in Solvang was explained. Beginning at 7 p.m. each day, all cooked food in Nielsen’s steam table that has not sold is donated to the Buellton Senior Center. Finally, Gnekow offered gratitude for all the support the Los Olivos Rotary has given to the senior center in the past, including a kitchen and pantry remodel, furniture tent at the Thrift Store, and more.
At the conclusion of the evening, a fun raffle was held with gift certificates and flowers being won by happy participants.
