A free materials exchange website has been established by Santa Barbara County Public Works Department to help the public share materials deposited by the devastating 1/9 Debris Flow in Montecito.

Through the website, homeowners and contractors can connect directly with Montecito residents who have materials on their property that need to be removed, said Leslie Wells, collections and materials manager for the Resource Recovery and Waste Management Division.

Currently, individuals may post advertisements or review listings in five exchange categories: rocks, soil, mulch, boulders and other. Only natural materials should be exchanged; household items like appliances, electronics and furniture should not be listed.

All materials listed on the website are free. Parties involved in the exchanges will determine how the materials are transported from one property to another.

To visit the website, go to http://sbcountymaterialexchange.com/.

For more information about the materials exchange, call the Resource Recovery and Waste Management Division of the Public Works Department at 882-3600 or submit an inquiry via the “contact us” page of the website.
