The following is taken from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department commander's recap for the Santa Ynez Valley patrol. Those appearing as "arrested" have only been arrested on suspicion of the crime indicated and are presumed innocent.
Sunday, Nov. 12:
INCIDENT — A woman was cited for suspicion of possessing paraphernalia and possessing an open container of marijuana in a vehicle about 10:20 p.m. after she and a companion were contacted by sheriff’s deputies in the parking structure at the Chumash Casino.
She allegedly admitted to having the items and was issued the citation, then was released.
Monday, Nov. 13:
INCIDENT — Two people were cited for alleged drug offenses about 10:20 p.m. after deputies spotted their vehicle parked on a dirt road east of Santa Ynez Park with its lights on.
The driver was allegedly in possession of a methamphetamine pipe and an open container, and his passenger also was allegedly in possession of a methamphetamine pipe. Both were cited on suspicion of possessing paraphernalia and were released at the scene.
Tuesday, Nov. 14:
ARREST — A man who allegedly displayed symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol and allegedly was in possession of an open container of alcohol was arrested about 2:35 p.m. in a residential area of Buellton.
Stephen Avila was taken into custody near Dendale Road and Glennora Way and booked at the sheriff’s substation on suspicion of being drunk in public.
Wednesday, Nov. 15:
ARREST — A man was arrested about 12:15 a.m. in Santa Ynez after he was stopped for allegedly driving at an unsafe speed in a vehicle with a modified exhaust system.
Deputies stopped Johnny Yuhasz Jr. near Highway 246 after he was spotted speeding westbound on Sagunto Street and said he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
A breath test analysis allegedly showed blood alcohol levels of 0.07 and 0.08. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 or greater and was booked into Santa Barbara Jail.
Friday, Nov. 17:
ARREST — A woman was arrested about 7:40 p.m., the driver was cited and the vehicle they were in was impounded after a traffic stop in the 300 block of Freear Drive in Buellton.
A records check revealed all of the vehicle’s occupants had suspended or revoked driver’s licenses, and the driver did not have proof of insurance.
The front seat passenger, Thania Rivas, allegedly knew the driver had a suspended license but allowed him to drive, and she was on probation in Los Angeles County. A subsequent probation compliance check allegedly revealed a used hypodermic syringe in her makeup bag.
She was arrested on a probation violation as well as on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia, and the driver was cited for driving on a suspended license.
ARREST — Deputies were called to the 400 block of Alisal Road about 9:35 p.m. to investigate a report of an intoxicated woman lying on the ground across the street from Hotel Corque.
The woman, Shajn Blackman, was allegedly found too inebriated to care for herself or others, and she was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public and was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail.
Saturday, Nov. 18:
INCIDENT — An unidentified woman picked up a cell phone dropped by another woman in the Chumash Casino and left without attempting to locate the owner at about 3 a.m. The action constitutes theft under the California Penal Code, and the woman could be prosecuted if located.
ARREST — A woman was arrested after getting into and losing a fight with her cousin at the Chumash Casino.
Frances E. Hampton partied on a bus from Long Beach to Santa Ynez before getting into the fight about 11:50 a.m. She was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public and was booked into Santa Barbara Jail. Deputies said her cousin could not be located.
