The Allan Hancock College Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Ronald Schram as interim police chief for the college police department Monday night.

Schram replaces former Police Chief Paul Grohowski, who abruptly resigned in July after seven months on the job. The board is considering whether to improve the campus police department, or enter into a service agreement with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office for college law enforcement. In the interim, Schram will be tasked with supervising the district’s police department until the board reaches a decision.

Prior to joining the police department, Schram worked as a sergeant for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the Cuesta College Police Department. After his retirement from Cuesta College in 2014, Schram worked as a detective consultant for the Santa Maria Police Department until May 2017.
