The Santa Ynez baseball team hosted Morro Bay Tuesday while the softball team was on the road against St. Joseph.

Here are recaps from each contest:

Santa Ynez 9, Morro Bay 0

Santa Ynez starter Ben Moore, and relievers Nolan Morrison and Ethan Usher combined on a three-hitter as Santa Ynez (2-1, 1-0) won at home in its Los Padres League opener.

The game was Morro Bay's season opener as well at its league opener.

Moore pitched into the fifth inning. Usher closed it out.

Cole Knightley and Colin Jamison both had a double and an RBI as the Pirates of Santa Barbara County beat the Pirates of San Luis Obispo County.


Santa Ynez 5, St. Joseph 5 (tie)

At St. Louis de Montfort, St. Joseph's home diamond, the season opener for both teams was called after the regulation seven innings because of darkness.

Freshman Micahela Baker hit a two-run single for the visiting Pirates. Mckinnzie Grossini, another freshman, had an RBI for Santa Ynez.

Yesenia Vega went 2-for-4. Armani Garcia, who pitched the Pirates into the CIF Southern Section Division 7 championship game last year, struck out four.
