CIF: The playoffs have arrived

The playoffs are here. 

The winter sports regular season is over at the prep level and the playoffs kick off Tuesday.

In the pool, Santa Ynez has a road game against Atascadero in a CIF Southern Section Division 5 first-round water polo game. But the game won't be played in Atascadero. It'll be held at Arroyo Grande High. It's scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

Nipomo, meanwhile, is in a Division 6 water polo game in Burbank at Burroughs. 

There are four area girls soccer teams in wild card matches Tuesday. Orcutt Academy will host Oxnard Hueneme at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Orcutt Community Park.  Arroyo Grande is at Redlands in Division 3, Paso Robles is at Windward in Division 4 and Templeton is at de Toledo in Division 6. 

On Wednesday, the boys basketball playoffs and there are a few big contests in the area, particularly Santa Maria's home game against Rio Hondo Prep. The Saints haven't hosted a home playoff boys basketball game since 1985, according to school records. 

In Division 3A, Cabrillo, the Los Padres League champion, is set to host Arroyo Grande Eagles, the third seed out of the PAC 8 League. 

In Division 2A, St. Joseph plays at Oaks Christian while Mission Prep, the PAC 8 League co-champ, is host to St. Bernard. 

In Division 4A, Santa Ynez is on the road at Valley Torah and Lompoc is at Holy Martyrs. San Luis Obispo, the other PAC 8 co-champ, hosts Alhambra in Division 4AA.

Pioneer Valley, an at-large team out of the PAC 8 League, is at St. Bonaventure. That game is slated to tip-off at Ventura College at 5:30 p.m.

In Division 5A, Dunn hosts Eastside Christian in Los Olivos while in Division 5AA, Cate is at VCA. That game may tip off at 5 p.m. 

Santa Maria is hosting Rio Hondo Prep in a Division 5AAA game.

The Saints are 17-7 overall after going 10-4 in Los Padres League play. Rio Hondo Prep, nicknamed the Kares, are 11-12 overall. 

Also on Wednesday, Cabrillo is at Righetti in a Division 4 wild card game in boys soccer. 

The girls basketball playoffs begin Thursday night.

In the big Santa Maria Valley game, Righetti, the No. 2 overall seed and undefeated PAC 8 League champ hosts Lompoc, the No. 3 team out of the Los Padres League, in a Division 2A first-round game. 

Cabrillo, the undefeated Los Padres League champ, hosts Calabasas Viewpoint in a Division 3AA game. 

Nipomo, the No. 4 team out of the LPL, is at Foothill Tech. That game will be held at Ventura College. Dunn is at Fillmore in a Division 5A game. 

In girls soccer, Santa Ynez, the Los Padres League champ, is home to wild card winner while Lompoc, the No. 2 team out of the LPL, is at Gabrielino.

Boys soccer continues Friday with first-round games. Santa Maria, the No. 2 team out of the LPL, is at Hueneme in Division 2. Pioneer Valley is at Quartz Hill in Division 3 while in Division 4 Santa Ynez will play at Santa Monica. Lompoc, the LPL champ, will host the winner of the wild card game between Lawndale and Leuzinger. Dunn hosts West Ranch in Division 5.
