Halfway through the Los Padres League campaign, the Santa Ynez girls soccer team is perfect in LPL play.
The Pirates won 2-0 at Templeton Monday to move to 10-1-0, 7-0-0.
Monica Pizano assisted on Julia Pritchard's goal in the third minute. Pizano scored on a penalty kick in the 68th.
Santa Ynez goalkeeper Breanna Rodrigues needed to make just one save.
The Pirates beat Lompoc 1-0 on Jan. 16 in a battle of LPL unbeatens. In that game, the Los Padres League assists leader scored the only goal of the game Tuesday night.
As a result, the Santa Ynez girls soccer team is alone in first place.
The Lompoc defense had been marking well most of the first half. However, the Braves' defense broke down early in the 21st minute and Pritchard, 28 yards away from the center of the goal, popped the ball into the right side of the net to give Santa Ynez a 1-0 win at Huyck Stadium in Lompoc.
Santa Ynez edged Lompoc for the league title last year, going 11-3-0 to the second-place Braves' 10-3-1.
"Every game against Lompoc is like a championship game for us," said Pritchard, who came into the game with 12 assists.
Sarah Johnston had the assist in the win over Lompoc last week.
"I saw Sarah breaking with the ball," said Pritchard. "I found an open spot on the 18." Pritchard took the pass, beat two Braves' defenders and scored.
Lompoc sophomore striker Ayziah Simmons came into the game with six goals on the year, and she nearly had number seven late in the first half.
Santa Ynez 51, Morro Bay 34
Merek Mercado sank three 3-pointers en route to scoring 15 points, and Santa Ynez won at home in this battle of the Pirates on Jan. 19.
Santa Ynez moved to 7-4, 5-2 in the LPL with a 43-36 win over Templeton on Monday.
Zack Hewitt put in 13 points for Santa Ynez in its win over Morro Bay last week. Also in that game, Ryan Rennick and Gabe Prendergast scored eight apiece.
Lompoc 54, Santa Ynez 39
Danielle Morgan joined the 1,000 club at LHS – by scoring her 1,000th career point during the first half of the Braves’ 15-point win at Bryan Ayer Court on Jan. 16.
Morgan, who is playing in her fourth varsity season, finished with 18 points. She also hauled down 10 rebounds for the double-double. Outside of Morgan, Bella Robles scored 14 points and added nine rebounds. Mya Mendoza finished with eight points.
The Pirates were led by Malia Loos and her 12 points. Sarah Perkins added 10 points.
