The Solvang Conference & Visitors Bureau is still accepting applications for two seats on its board of directors, but the deadline to apply is the close of business Thursday, Dec. 8.

The SCVB is a not-for-profit organization formed in 1986 to promote the city of Solvang and its Northern European culture, cuisine, shopping, arts and attractions.

Applicants must be either an active business owner or executive-level manager or the property owner of a tourism-related business in the commercial area of Solvang for a minimum of two years prior to Dec. 31.

The new directors will serve a two-year term starting in January, said Tracy Farhad, executive director.

They will replace Jeff Paaske of Solvang Restaurant, the current board president, and David Rasmussen of Rasmussen’s, whose terms will end in January

Other SCVB board members are Kim Jensen of Ingeborg’s Danish Chocolates, vice president and secretary; Susan Williams of Wandering Dog Wine Bar, treasurer and chief financial officer; Angie Horn of Hamlet Inn & Atterdag Inn; and Dr. Kenneth Harwood, economist, of the Solvang Chamber of Commerce, honorary director.

Directors encourage the development of new promotional programs and oversee the strategic marketing plan and advancement of Solvang's tourism industry, Farhad said.

Applicants must commit to attending regular monthly SCVB board meetings, held at 8:30 a.m. the fourth Thursday of each month in Solvang City Hall.

But she noted the meeting schedule is subject to change with prior notification, and some special meetings are required throughout the year.

Those interested in a director’s position should send a one-page statement describing the applicant’s vision for Solvang tourism promotion, his or her unique contributions and a brief biography to Farhad at tracy.farhad@SolvangUSA.com.

For more information and assistance, call Farhad at 688-6144.
