The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration will present a free Small Business Tax Seminar for business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs Wednesday, March 21, in Santa Maria.

Those looking for assistance with state and federal tax issues, as well as those who want to expand their business knowledge, will benefit from the presentations, a CDTFA spokesman said.

Topics to be addressed will include avoiding common sales and use tax problems, different issues raised by employees versus independent contractors, developing a better business by keeping better records and various forms of ownership.

The presentations will be made by representatives of the CDTFA, Employment Development Department, Franchise Tax Board and Internal Revenue Service, who will also answer questions raised by participants.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., with the presentations to start at 9 a.m. and end at noon in Shepard Hall of the Santa Maria Public Library at 421 S. McClelland St.

Those planning to participate can request accommodations for languages other than English and for those with visual and hearing impairments.

To sign up for the seminar, call toll-free 888-847-9652 or visit http://cdtfa.ca.gov/seminar/seminar.aspx?flag=780.
