The C Gallery in Los Alamos is hosting a reading and book signing from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, for the upcoming release of Bill Cates’ book “Upon A Fine Horse.”
The event will include a tasting of Tantara wines.
Cates is not only an author with three other books in print, some stage plays and several screenplays, but is also the senior winemaker and a co-founder and co-owner at Tantara wines.
Abstract work by his wife, Gwen, is on exhibit as part of the gallery’s “Interior Monologues” art show with sculptor Albert McCurdy.
“Upon A Fine Horse,” Cates’ most recent book, is described as a fresh and humorous coming-of-age memoir of a solid, wholesome, young man at the Hamlyn horse stables in Virginia.
It harkens back to a time when life was earthier, less hurried and less mechanized. The “quick-read work of fiction” recounts the man’s many poignant and flirtatious escapades.
“I laughed out loud. It was refreshing,” said Gallery Director Connie Rohde.
More information about Cates’ writing, including reviews, and samples of his photography are available at www.calavira.com.
Recently, Tantara wines were named in “The 10 Best of Everything,” a National Geographic book by Nathaniel and Andrew Lande. The book is subtitled “An Ultimate Guide for Travelers.”
Admission is free, but Rohde asks for reservations at 344-3807 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
