Passed away on Monday, July 2nd, 2018 in Arroyo Grande. He was born on July 15, 1953 to parents Boyd and Patricia Kelly in Rolling Hills, CA. The family moved during his elementary school days from Rolling Hills to Santa Ynez. After graduating from Santa Ynez Union High School where he swam and played football, Boyd moved to San Luis Obispo and attended Cal Poly for a short time.
It was at this time that Boyd became quite active in what was to become a lifetime passion... Rugby. Boyd became very involved with San Luis Obispo Rugby Football Club and, after several successful years, he left San Luis Obispo Rugby and co-founded Arroyo Grande Rugby Football Club. In the mid-1980s Boyd became a commercial helicopter pilot; a profession and passion he spent many years successfully pursuing. Between piloting and Rugby, Bo travelled far and wide; making friends, playing rugby and influencing young rugby players around the world.
He is survived by his 11-year-old daughter, Kelsey Shipley of Nipomo, and his sister, Karen Shattuck of McHenry Illinois. Bo will be remembered as a dear friend, a fierce competitor & coach, and a loving father, son, and brother.
A graveside memorial will be held at 11:00am on Friday, July 13th at Ballard's Oak Hill Cemetery for those wishing to pay their respects. A lunch reception will immediately follow at Sunny Fields Park at 900 Alamo Pintado Road. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to ARROYO GRANDE YOUTH RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB (501(c)(3)) and mailed as follows: C/O Lorna Hewitt, 415 Camino Perillo, Arroyo Grande, CA 93420
