Carol Ann Molesworth passed away in the early morning on June 4, 2019 surrounded by her family. She was born in Wichita, Kansas on January 12, 1938 to Merry Carol Philllips and J. B. Metz. In her early years she spent a great deal of her life with her maternal grandparents. At the age of 6 her life changed when her mother married Tom Lewis, a career Naval officer who was her adoring Dad for the next 68 years of her life. Carol took great pride in her younger siblings, Nancy Callahan (Jim) and Tom Lewis Jr. (Sara). She moved frequently, and lived many places growing up as a Navy Brat. This would prepare her well for life with Dale.
She met the love of her life, Dale Molesworth, as a teenager when she was visiting her grandparents in Wichita. Dale's aunt lived next door. He was smitten with her and the sight of her in “those white shorts”. They corresponded for the next two years, as she was living in California at the time. While she was attending the Kaiser Hospital Nursing Program in Oakland, California, Dale set out from Kansas with little more than a diamond ring in his pocket and heart full of love. They were married on December 27, 1956.
In the 62 years they spent together, eight different states became home, as Dale's career in Medical Group Management took them far and wide. She was always supportive of him, and where ever they landed from Minnesota to Mississippi she set up house, hanging the familiar unbleached ruffled muslin curtains in the window. Carol became a valued and respected member of every community she lived in. She loved to garden, and her homes were always surrounded by beautiful flowers. Their two daughters, Brenda Sageng (John) and Gayle Mercado (Art), were the focus of her life.
In 1978, at the age of 40 she returned to college completing her nursing degree and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Her thirty-year nursing career was spent in the clinic setting from Pediatrics to Internal Medicine. Nursing was a natural path for her and she never stopped! Carol's favorite position was as Dr. Bill Heringer's office nurse for many years.
Her family grew to include 6 grandchildren, Brittany, Caitlin, Halley and Evan Sageng, and Catherine and Trey Mercado. There are now seven great grandchildren, with another on the way. She delighted in each and every one of them, their accomplishments, talents and challenges.
She loved unconditionally and always emphasized being the kind person. Carol often gave a smile or compliment to a stranger that might have been invisible to the rest of the world, but they would light up at her actions. She made the world a nicer place. Dale, her family, and so many dear friends will feel her absence, especially Bella and Cookie, her faithful walking partner.
All are welcome to join us in a Celebration of Life Reception to be held on Saturday, June 15th from 11:30 -2:00 at the Ranch Club Mobile Estates Club House. Colorful attire is requested for the celebration. There will be food, wine and laughter among the tears. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital where she was an active Auxiliary member.
