Eldon 'Howard' Petersen, at the age of 82, passed away on May 16, 2019, surrounded by loving family after a valiant fight with Parkinson's. Howard was born in Solvang, CA on June 8, 1936, to Hans and Mabel Petersen.
Howard grew up in Solvang and graduated from Santa Ynez Valley High School in 1954. After College and four years in the USAF, he returned to Solvang and Married Linda Lou Jepsen on July 19, 1958. During the next 37 years, he not only owned and operated his own auto repair & towing business in the heart of Solvang, he did double duty as both a Volunteer Fireman and then Fire Chief for 20 years. In 1986, he developed his corner into what is now known as the Fredensborg Square Building.
He was a member of the Solvang Brotherhood Lodge #299, Solvang Men's Dania Lodge #11, Solvang Vikings, President, of the California Tow Truck Assn. (Tri-County Chapter), the Solvang Danish Days Foundation and a brief couple years as a School Bus Driver. Obviously, trying to retire was difficult. Howard and Linda moved to Indio in 2004, until Linda passed away. In 2008, Howard met and married Carol Sue Beckers of Lake Arrowhead. They have been members of the Skyforest Elks Club, where Howard served as a Trustee in 2013 for three years. Up till his passing, they continued to reside in Lake Arrowhead.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Arden and Dale and his first wife Linda. He is survived by his wife Carol, daughters Brenda (Mark), Debbie (Pete), son Kevin, grandchildren Charlene (Steven), Jonathan (Caitlin), Justin, Brad, Kayla, Krystal and great-granddaughter Kinleigh. He also leaves several nieces and nephews and dog Mattie.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held tomorrow, June 7th at 11 am, at Bethania Lutheran Church, in Howard's honor.
