Gordon Wallace Aitken, known to his friends as Gordy, passed away of natural causes, surrounded by loved ones at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Sunday September 16th, 2018.
Gordy was born in Los Angeles, the youngest of four children to Richard and Emma Aitken. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
A graduate of Manual Arts High School, where he served as Boys League President, Student Body President, and member of the championship football team. He attended George Pepperdine College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science before continuing his education and receiving his Master of Science in Education from USC. He was an avid Trojan fan and loyal supporter.
He began his distinguished career in public education for the Malibu-Santa Monica School District. He was a beloved teacher, devoted father, and precious husband.
After retiring, he moved to Solvang in 1994 where he pursued his passion of golf and was a member of the Alisal Golf Course. He enjoyed many good years playing with the early birds and made wonderful friends there.
Gordy is survived by his wife, Karin, of 37 years, 2 sons, John (Angelica) and Andrew (Lori), 2 granddaughters, Kristin (Rod) Gomez and Brittany (Jimmy) Doyle, and 5 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Adam, Carissa Gomez, and Ranger, Hatcher Doyle.
Psalm 73:26 “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
A day of remembrance will occur at a later date.
