Jerry Preuss

Jerry Preuss was the only son of Ervin and Ethel Preuss. His life passion was the game of golf. He got his first break when he was recruited to the USC golf team. There he played with other golf greats such as David Stockton. Jerry graduated from USC's Marshall School of Business in 1966. As a professional, Jerry played in the very famous 1966 US Open at Olympic Club in San Francisco where Billy Casper had the greatest comeback of all time to beat Arnold Palmer in a playoff.

Jerry was elected into PGA membership in 1971 and was a PGA Member for nearly 48 years. Jerry first worked at the Alisal Ranch pro shop from 1980 to 1984 and returned to the Alisal River Course pro shop in 1993. After 2006, Jerry finished his career as Assistant Head Professional at the Alisal Ranch Course and retiring in 2016. Jerry was honored as a lifetime PGA member when he retired in 2016.

Jerry was touted for his high level of technical explanation and was an extremely nice and reliable person. He gave back, coaching the Santa Ynez High School Girls Golf Team for many years, always willing to help anyone improve their golf game.

Jerry is survived by his nearly 65 year golf family. Jerry is remembered by his PGA Golf Pro Peers, long term Alisal Employees, Ranch Course Members, Legions of Golf Students, River Course Co Workers, Ranch Course Co Workers and Wisconsin Cousins.

There will be a reception on Thursday June 27th at 6 pm at the Ranch Course at the Alisal.The Santa Ynez Community and friends are welcome.

An optional $25 dinner is available but you must RSVP to dhartley@alisal by June 18.
