Kenneth W. Twigg, long-time Santa Ynez Valley resident, passed away peacefully, June 8, 2018, at the ripe young age of 98! Ken was born in Cumberland, MD, to Dr. Allen and Maude Twigg. After graduating from high school, he joined the Marines and served during World War II in the South Pacific.
Ken married Sarah Oliver in 1944 and settled, lived and worked in Southern California before moving to the SYV in 1973. As life long learners, Ken and Sarah studied throughout the world attending over 75 Elderhostel-Road Scholar Programs. They were married for over 69 years, until Sarah's passing in 2013.
An avid fisherman, camper and backpacker, Ken hiked, camped and fished with family and friends throughout Northern California and Oregon with many summer trips to his favorite, Yosemite. Later, he and Sarah had property in Hamilton, MT, and for a number of years the Bitterroot Valley and Sawtooth Mountains were the summer destination for family rafting, camping and fishing adventures. When not on his tractor, tending his 10-acres and growing elephant garlic, Ken volunteered with Senior Services.
During his 98 years, Ken experienced the passing of three sons (Daniel, Steve and Sam), as well as a granddaughter, Danielle. Ken is survived by 3 children: Tim, Bill and Anne, along with seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Family and friends alike were blessed to have known and loved this amazing man.
In lieu of flowers, Ken's request is that you make a donation to the church or charitable organization of your choice.
A celebration of life memorial service is being held July 20, 2018 at 11:00am, at Bethania Lutheran Church.
