Robert D. Rhodus was born in Castle Rock, Colorado. Bob married his first wife, Charlotte and graduated from Colorado State University and worked at Lockheed Martin from 1959 to 2000.
Bob married Mary Lee in 1975 after Charlotte's passing. They moved to Solvang that year and loved the Santa Ynez Valley and its rural lifestyle. After several career-related moves, Bob and Mary Lee returned to Solvang in 2004 to enjoy retirement.
Bob's love of horses brought him to the Roundup Riders of the Rockies in Colorado and the Rancheros Vistadores in California, where he made lifelong friends. He was a member of Santa Ynez Valley Elks 2640. Bob loved every kind of animal, including his many horses, dogs and cats.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee, sons Bryan (wife Wanda) of Slidell, Louisiana, William Schmidt of Baltimore Maryland, Aaron of Solvang, California, Kurt of Denver, Colorado, Sean of Solvang, California, two granddaughters, Brooke and Brittany of Slidell, Louisiana, three great-grandchildren and his sister Mary Schenkel of Henderson, Nevada.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 2 PM at St. Mark's-in-the-Valley in Los Olivos. Arrangements entrusted to Loper Chapel in Ballard. Burial plans in Colorado will follow.
