A customary way to celebrate the annual Cinco de Mayo holiday is to enjoy traditional music and dance. For a group of local youth, an upcoming performance with South American flair is scheduled.

"La Cumparsita," by Gerardo Rodrigues, often considered the most famous Tango ever recorded, will be performed on May 5 at the Santa Ynez Valley High School Theater in the upcoming "APPLAUSE Showcase," sponsored by the Arts Outreach Young Artist's Program.

The Valley’s youth guitar ensemble from Song In My Heart Studio played this same tango on March 24 at Loyola Marymount University’s annual Young Artist Showcase Guitar festival, and received coaching from internationally renowned recording guitar artist Martha Masters.

During the Loyola festival, in addition to La Cumparsita, the ensemble performed "Farruca," by D. Cracknell and Musette by J.S. Bach, under the direction of Vahid Imani.

The ensemble members are Brett Adams, Hazel Colgate, Josiah Frias, Colin Janes, Cameron and Carson Knight, Joshua McCollum and Sherwin Raoufi.

“I am gratified to see our students identifying with high achieving artists and performing with beauty and grace in world class settings,” said Imani, director of guitar studies at Song In My Heart Studio.
