Santa Ynez Valley Youth Coalition (Coalition) has honored Bruce Porter for his service to the Coalition. Porter served as Coalition Chair from 2014 to 2016 and has been a member for four years.
“I am so honored to have worked with such a broad cross-section of our community as we collaborate to build a Valley that is safe and nurturing for our children and young adults. It is a huge challenge to raise children in today's world of distractions and temptations. The Valley Coalition has been such a wonderful resource for parents and an advocate for healthy choices for our kids,” said Porter.
The Coalition has been working to reduce and prevent youth substance abuse in the Santa Ynez Valley since 2008.
“Drug and alcohol use trends among our high school youth, as measured by the California Healthy Kids Survey and other performance metrics, have been on the decline since the inception of the Coalition,” said Director Mary Conway. “That said, the work is continuous as new children enter adolescence and high school every year.”
