Jodi House Brain Injury Support Center has a new home for its weekly program in the Santa Ynez Valley. They now meet every Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. at Bethania Lutheran Church in Solvang.
The nonprofit organization has been serving brain injury survivors in Santa Barbara County for over 35 years, and has been meeting in the Valley for the last six years. The program can be of assistance to anyone who has suffered a brain injury from a stroke or traumatic accident.
"We have a small number of people in the Valley who regularly attend but we want to get the word out that we're here and can help," said Jodi House Program Director Susan Cass.
The first hour of each session is devoted to activities that help with cognitive ability, Cass explained. It may be a visit to a museum or park, reading a newspaper article and discussing it or a cooking class.
The second hour acts as a support group where participants can discuss with each other how they're doing, their progress and challenges, and share helpful advice on improving their lives.
There is a $25 enrollment fee to start in the program. The weekly meetings are free of charge.
