100719 Throwback Thursday

A color guard representing Santa Ynez Valley American Legion Post No. 160 and Pedercini-Ortega Post No. 7139, Veterans of Foreign Wars, joined to take part in Veterans Day flag raising ceremonies Tuesday morning at the newly opened Veterans Wing at the Veterans Memorial Building in Solvang. The colorful event of the raising of the colors for the first time at the new wing served to also mark the formal dedication of the new addition. The ceremonies were carried out under the direction of Legion Commander Roy Qualey, with Pastor Carlo Petersen, Legion post chaplain, speaking briefly. The new Veterans Wing was the scene of a gala "Cannon Ball" fete last Saturday night. The event drew a capacity dinner crowd topping the 250 mark and was described as one of the most successful events of its kind ever held in the Santa Ynez Valley.
