After retiring their popular summer concert, "Red, White & Blues," after many years, Buttonwood Farm Winery & Vineyard in Solvang is launching what they hope will become a new tradition, "Rockin' Our Roots." More rockabilly than blues, it has the same format as the previous event and a new philanthropic partner, Explore Ecology.
The concert will be held at the Buttonwood Vineyard Pond lawn and beach from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 22. Tickets are $45 (discounted for Buttonwood wine club members).
Regional favorite The Soul Cats will bring out their four-part rhythm section, six brass players and four singers as they put a whole lot of soul into their rock 'n' roll. The Crown City Bombers are heading up from Los Angeles to play classic rockabilly, early R&B, rock 'n' roll of the 1950s and '60s, as well as rocking originals with a vintage feel.
Bringing your dancing shoes -- or flip-flops -- is definitely recommended.
Tickets include the concert, two glasses of wine and a logo glass. Buttonwood winemaker Karen Steinwachs will be on hand to pour her award-winning wines. Two food trucks and McConnell's ice cream will be there. You can also bring your own picnic.
The nonprofit Explore Ecology delivers a variety of environmental education programs to encourage creative thinking through hands-on science exploration and art discovery, including their School Gardens Program.
From every ticket, $5 goes to support Explore Ecology, as does a percentage of sales from the food vendors.
