The U.S. Postal Service is investigating a break-in last night at Los Olivos Post Office on Grand Avenue, said Lt. Shawn O’Grady, commander of the Solvang/Santa Ynez Valley substation.
Someone forced entry into the workroom, where mail is handled, through a Dutch door adjacent to the sales counter and a wall of post office boxes.
Bruce Mocettini, president of MCO Financial Management in Los Olivos, said certified and registered mail for the office on Alamo Pintado Avenue had been opened and contents were taken.
The Sheriff’s Department initially began the investigation, however, the Postal Service is keeping its jurisdiction on the case, O'Grady said.
At the time of the Sheriff’s Department involvement, there were no suspects, he added.
Check back for details as they become available.
