Vandenberg Air Force Base is set to host a developmental test launch of an unarmed intercontinental ballistic missile, or ICBM, during a window spanning from late Tuesday night to early Wednesday morning.
The Air Force Global Strike Command unarmed Minuteman III missile is scheduled to be shot off from northern VAFB at some point between 11:01 p.m. Tuesday and 5:01 a.m. Wednesday.
"Developmental testing provides valuable data to Air Force Global Strike Command and holistically tests the systems, procedures and airmen from the initial mission planning to the final weapons employment phases," read a portion of a statement from VAFB's 30th Space Wing.Â
The test is not related to any real-world events, according to the Air Force.
The Minuteman III missile system is the only ground-based nuclear weapon system utilized by the U.S.
