Greg Paraskou has been elected to serve a one-year term as president of the board of directors for Santa Ynez Valley People Helping People, a spokesman for the nonprofit organization said.
Other People Helping People officers elected for 2017-18 include Francisca Escobar, vice president; Becky Barieau, treasurer; and John Kuelbs, secretary.
Paraskou has been a PHP board member since 2013 and served as vice president for the past two years.
He became a resident of Santa Barbara County and the Santa Ynez Valley in 2000. Now retired, he previously served as the chief public defender for Santa Barbara County from 2006 to 2010.
He has been a member of the California Attorneys for Criminal Justice Board of Governors, the criminal law executive of the California State Bar Association and director for the Legal Aid Foundation of Santa Barbara County.
He holds a bachelor of arts degree from San Francisco State College and a juris doctor degree from Hastings College of Law, University of California. He was admitted to the State Bar in 1972.
PHP addresses emergency and basic needs and furnishes integrated family and individual support services for men, women and children in the Santa Ynez Valley, Los Alamos and adjacent communities.
