Officials have identified the 62-year-old man who was killed in a single-vehicle crash late Saturday afternoon on Highway 154.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Coroner's Office has identified the decedent as Ricky Lawrence Long, of Santa Maria. Long was reportedly driving on the San Marcos Pass section of Highway 154, west of Salvar Road, with passenger Amber Cave, who reportedly sustained minor injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officials said just before 5 p.m. Saturday, Long was driving a Honda Civic eastbound toward Santa Barbara when he suddenly swerved within the eastbound lane and, then, across the center of the highway and back across the eastbound lane before running off the paved road edge.
Long was reportedly wearing a seat belt but still suffered fatal injuries, the CHP said.
Highway 154 was closed in both directions for a few hours while officials investigated the collision.
