Kirschenmann Incident

Crews from multiple agencies responded to a call of a structure fire that spread to surrounding vegetation at 1381 Foothill Road off of Highway 166.

A vehicle fire possibly involving a tractor-trailer and multiple shipping containers south of Cuyama prompted a full vegetation response from multiple agencies Thursday afternoon.

Reported just before 2 p.m. as a possible vegetation and structure fire, crews believed the fire, dubbed the Kirschenmann incident, started at a structure near the 1300 block of Foothill Road before spreading to nearby vegetation. Black smoke was reportedly be seen throughout the area.

Crews from Los Padres National Forest, Santa Maria, Santa Barbara County and Kern County fire departments were called to respond.

Upon arrival, crews discovered a "big-rig tractor" and multiple shipping containers ablaze on the SZ Ranch in Cuyama. Additional units (including air support and bulldozers) were called off as crews said the incident maintained good clearance from the brush and did not threaten any vegetation.

Engines on scene were able to douse the fire by 2:37 p.m.
