The high school football season is just flying by. Here we are in Week Seven, and there are legitimate toss-ups this week.

Let's start in the Northern League where Santa Maria returns from its bye to play at Templeton.

The Saints are 2-4 and the Eagles are 2-5. Now, I think a healthy Santa Maria team would have no trouble with Templeton. But the Saints have been nearly decimated with injuries. Maybe the bye week took care of that a bit and help a lot of the banged-up Saints get back on the field. Rob Ruiz has been dealing with a few nagging injuries. So maybe he'll be ready to go. Jonathan Garcia and Adrian Ayala are in the same boat.

Santa Maria QB Blake Truhitte has been the lone ranger running the offense over there. Frank Lopez has been a reliable running back and Jonathan Ramos is their best two-way player. If all three of them have big games that will definitely lift the Saints over the Eagles. I'm going with Santa Maria 44-43, but I have no idea how that one will actually turn out.

Moving over to the LPL, we have two games on the docket and neither of them appear like they'll be very close.

St. Joseph takes on a reeling Pioneer Valley team that had no life against Lompoc last Friday in a 49-10 home loss. PV coach John Ruiz benched his starters midway through the second quarter in that one and the Panthers limped home after that.

St. Joseph, meanwhile, has been on absolute roll with Dino Maldonado throwing 10 TDs in his last two games, while going 22-for-24 passing as the Knights have scored 70 and 77 points, respectively.

The Knights should roll over PVHS, unless there's a drastic change from what we saw from them Friday.

Santa Ynez takes on Cabrillo in the other LPL game. Santa Ynez will roll the Conqs, who allowed those 77 points to the Knights last week. Santa Ynez is coming off its 54-0 thrashing of lowly Morro Bay. Dustin Greg has 24 touchdowns and just 2 INTs this year. That number should grow and Gregg has a shot at 30 TD passes this year. (Heck, he could get there against Cabrillo after throwing seven against Morro Bay last week).

Over in the PAC 5 League we have one very intriguing game: Atascadero at Righetti.

The Warriors are coming off a decent 27-7 win at SLO last week. (SM and PV both put up at least 40 on the Tigers). But a win is a win. Can the Warriors match-up well with Atascadero? I think it's possible. They have played them close recently and this isn't one of the better Atascadero teams to take the field.

I think Righetti could stun them. But I also think Atascadero could roll. I think the safe pick is Atascadero and that's who I'll go with. But I think Righetti could pull it off. (If I was behind in The Predictions standings and needed to make up some ground, I would go for Righetti, but I'm trying to keep my lead here).
